Extra Rehearsals
ALL Drama Students!
Intro to Theatre and Intermediate Drama students will be required to attend the Advanced drama classes in June instead of their own class time. This is so that they can practice their parts interacting with the rest of the cast, so it is extremely important that everyone be there! The class times are Mondays and Wednesdays 7-8 pm. This will ensure a more successful dress rehearsal and performances.
Intermediate and Advanced Drama students will be asked to come in and practice with the dance classes that they interact with, so that they can have an opportunity to practice their blocking together before dress rehearsal. Please see the schedule below.

June 17th, Thursday 3-6:30 pm -- Load in and raise the set at SHS for Mary Poppins!
June 17th, 6:30-9 pm -- Dress Rehearsal ALL performers at SHS Theatre.
AAPAC holds firm to our “Mandatory Dress Rehearsal” policy. Please be accommodating to be sure you/your student are there and can participate in the performances.
! Students must attend the dress rehearsal or will not be allowed to perform!
- This policy reflects on our mission statement.
- Accountability, dedication and responsibility to teammates and instructors are very important.
- Students will have ONE chance to practice their dance/scene/song on stage and performance space. This is their one and only opportunity to figure out spacing, blocking, entrances/exits, sound checks, technical rehearsal with lighting, etc. This is especially importance due to set pieces and other people that will be on stage at the time of their dance/song/scene. There are a lot of obstacles on stage that they will have to look out for and get used to very quickly.
- Their teammates and instructors need them there. It really creates a lot of stress for everyone involved if someone are missing, nor does it give them an accurate rehearsal when someone is missing. Students should have the opportunity to rehearse on stage as it will be for their performances.
The rehearsal schedule will go as follows (times are approximate):
- 5:30 arrival. Promptly get changed into costume and place props and any costume changes. Be ready to rehearse by 6 SHARP.
- Marta's speech at 6-6:05.
- Running curtain call and reception line FIRST with all performers. 6:05-6:30.
- Rehearsing small children dances (out of performance order, so they can go home right away): 6:30-6:40 Pre-Ballet Toys, 6:40-6:50 Primary Ballet Bugs.
- Run the entire show from the top (with Ballet 4 as toys and Mary & Bert dancing instead of Bugs like will be for Saturday PM). Once student is completely done with ALL parts they need to checkin their costume with the costume manager and then they are free to either a) watch the remaining of the show from the audience or b) go home for the night. All drama students need to replace their props in the starting position before they leave for the evening.
June 18th, Tentative - Extra Dress Rehearsal at SHS Theatre. TBA.
June, 19th and 20th -- Perform Mary Poppins. 2 pm and 7 pm on Saturday, and 2 pm on Sunday. Then tear down the set and load out.
Costuming
Every student is required to provide some part of their costuming; most of which you should already own or should be easily and inexpensively obtained. However, if you do not already have these items please DO NOT WAIT to the last minute to get these things. Goodwill and other thrift stores should have what you need, or borrow from a friend or family member.
IMPORTANT: You will need to bring these items to the Dress Rehearsal and leave them in the theatre for the performances. Don NOT wear them to the theatre or leave with them on.
Dance Students
Stage Make-up for all dancers, all ages: For hygienic reasons you need to provide your own stage make-up (do not share) which includes the following: Foundation, blush, eye shadow in either brown or grey tones (natural earth tones), eyeliner in either black or brown, Mascara in either black or brown, brown eye brow pencil may be needed for fair haired people, and rose colored lipstick (not red or hot pink, please!). If you aren’t comfortable applying your own make-up, we will have assistants that are trained and can help you.
All Ballet Students: You all need to provide their own pink full footed (no footless or stirrups!) ballet tights in good condition (clean, no runs, holes, rips, no stains, etc) and pink ballet shoes, also in good condition and properly fitted (check fitting now!). All Ballet Dancers need to have their hair in a tidy bun; no bangs or wisps of hair hanging, no snoods, scrunchies, headbands, colored clips, etc. Use a hair net, bun pins, Bobbie pins, gel, hair spray, etc. whatever it takes to make it look nice.
Ballet 4 students: In addition to the above, you will need to provide your blue leotard, black character skirt, and black character shoes. Be sure your Bun is in a LOW BUN to accommodate your hat.
Jazz 2 and Theatre Dance Students: You are required to provide full length black jazz pants (no writing or logos), black jazz shoes, black socks, and a dark colored long sleeved shirt. I am providing the suspenders, hats, jackets and props. Ladies need you hair in a low bun (to accommodate hat) and Gents need their hair cut, combed and styled out of their faces.
Modern Students: Please have hair up off of neck and face in your style of choice. You will need your white yoga pants and stage undergarments in nude or white and your modern shoes.
Belly Dancers: Please wear solid color harem pants, skirt, hip scarf or tassel belt but no coins, and blousy/gypsy top.
Tap Dancers: Please provide your own black slacks, white collared shirt and black socks. We will provide the tail coats, cummerbunds, etc.
Drama Students
Everyone will need to provide your own shoes. Absolutely NO TENNIS SHOES or bare feet on stage! We take a great deal of care putting together each costume and wearing tennis shoes really looks tacky and unprofessional. Jazz shoes, character shoes work great if you have them. If you don’t have these, plain black or brown “dress shoes” (oxfords or Mary Jane styles or something similar) are fine. Get these things NOW and bring them into Lisa or Marta for their “ok” before the dress rehearsal; don’t wait until the last minute.
Please look for your character or class as to what you need to provide. All other pieces of costumes are provided by AAPAC.
